Grand Challenges Committee meetings are open to all UNM faculty, staff, and students, as well as Grand Challenges community partners. If you would like to join a committee, please email Tim Schroeder at grandchallenges@unm.edu.

Grand Challenges Education Committee

Committee Charge:

  • Leverage UNM Grand Challenges to broaden student and faculty participation in interdisciplinary research and problem-solving (at undergraduate and graduate levels).
  • Leverage UNM Grand Challenges to strengthen instruction.
  • Leverage UNM Grand Challenges to enrich student learning through co-curricular programs.
  • Leverage UNM Grand Challenges to build enrollments and increase retention/graduation rates.
  • Work closely with GC Research Teams to keep them engaged in GC education efforts.
  • Report regular progress to the GC Steering Council.

Grand Challenges Community Connections Committee

Committee Charge:

  • Engage community stakeholders in building wide-scale awareness of, and support for, the UNM Grand Challenge Conceptual Goals.
  • Help the GC Research Teams engage external researchers and institutions in GC research.
  • Help external stakeholders leverage UNM Grand Challenges to improve New Mexico education, workforce development, entrepreneurial innovation, cross-institutional collaboration, and civic engagement (among others).
  • Work closely with GC Research Teams to keep them engaged in community outreach and connections.
  • Report regular progress to the GC Steering Council.
